This is the son of a guy I work with here in Haiti. Most kids his age carry water at least once a day from the public fountain to the house. Most don't have a wheelbarrow to do it with. Many use donkeys. We have been getting rain on a regular basis. It is amazing the regularity of it. We are not getting huge rains but lots of small rains which is good. It keeps the crops alive and does not cause too much run off and erosion. This past week I have been busy. Part of the time I have been helping mark out posts for a fence line for the hospital guest house where I am staying. It has been very hot and humid. I got a bit of a tan this week. I try to stay covered up but sometimes when it real humid its hard to put on a long sleeve shirt. This week Sadrak and I had to do an emergency survey as well. They had bugun work on a canal here and realized they where going to have a problem with slope about 40 meters in. So we went and surveyed this canal in a river valley with steep slopes on either side.

There was a lot of mangos, bannanas coconuts and bread fruit treas that where in the way so we had to set the instrument up about 150 feet up on the side of one of the hills. Not knowing any of the paths nor how steep the hill became I decided to just climb straight up the side of the hill. I realized this was a mistake about halfway up when I was grasping for anything that looked stable trying not to roll down the side of the hill. Well I eventually made it to a stable place with a good view of the valley. Shooting the points was difficult and we had to redo a large portion of our work because of some mistakes we made but eventually with the help of some others got enough data for the engineers to figure out how much slope we had to work with. The other day I went to the beach with a bunch of TB patients from the hospital. Anne-Marie rented a tap tap and about thirty of them went down to the ocean. It was really neat to see them get out and away from the hospital. We crammed about thirty of us into the back of a toyota pickup and they sang all the way down to the ocean and all the way back.

Recently we had some hydro-geologists visit us. They gave us some very much needed information about where we should be drilling for water. It is amazing the knowledge that comes through this area. We spent the day driving, hiking, and looking at the plunge angle of various sedimentary rock layers and some maps compiled by the UN many years ago. I may be learning how to drill wells very soon. Soccer has been going well. I am starting to make fewer points for the other team :] Will write more later.... Oh hey by the way I saw some of you left comments on my blog. This thing does not notify me when I get new comments so I will go through and reply to your comments soon, thanks for your patience :]

Dustin, cool post. It's fun to read about what you're doing down there. Sounds like you're learning a lot.
Did you know that blogger will notify you when you get comments? It's under the settings...I think the email tab. They'll send the comment to your inbox.
We're praying for you. Glad to hear you're well.
Dustin, I apologize that my wife is giving you technical advice. I guess that's what happens when you move to a third world country. When we move to Singapore, we will be computer gurus. I hope this is not offensive to you.
