Learning how to sew

Skin that is. A while back after watching Gerland (a Haitian girl that works in the clinic and is kind of an apprentice to Dr. Anne-Marie) stich up one of the soccer guys I had asked Anne-Marie if it was something I could learn. She said that was no problem but stitches are allways a last minute thing not something that you can schedule normaly so months went by... until last week this lady came in with a large growth under her arm. Anne-Marie removed the growth but left the incision to be sutured until the next day. I have to say I was a little woried... mostly about the local anesthesia. I dont really like injecting people with needles :\ But Anne-Marie had some practice materiel available for me and taught me how to on that before moving to the real patient. The stitching went fairly well although my right hand was shaking a little at first. I forced myself to focuse on what I was doing and relax and that helped a bit. Giving stitches is one of the things on a list of things I would like to learn. People are allways cutting themselves with their own machets or getting cut by sharp bamboo so you never know when it will come in handy. The lady was very tough and did not complain. Well I am back in the US of A and the culture shock is not as bad as I expected. It was rather nice to take a hot shower and feel actually clean. I arrived up at camp where my parents work and have been hanging out with the family which has been very enjoyable. I miss the people in tpwias already but I hope to see them soon in January. My sister Leitha met me in the airport with two half gallons of ice creame! One mint chip and one cookies and cream :] People stoped and stared at us a little sharing our half gallon of ice cream but it was amazingly good.

So catching up with family has been real good, it is neat because they have lived in Haiti and really understand where I am coming back from. Today we played kayak soccer on the lake. A new sport that I am sure will make the olympics some day. Unfortunatly my sister and my dad totally whooped me my brother in law and my mom :[ Well I am off to check out the cabin my mom is building for her and my dad to stay in while at camp. I will be seeing many of you very soon!
