Well yesterday I flew out with MFI to haiti. Flew with Sam, a pilot who has been flying with mfi for many years, he has about 20,000 hours in a DC3. The flight took about six hours and was fairly uneventful. We arrived on the DC3 at about 11:30 am and my next flight on the puddle jumper took off at 12:30. I did not quite make it to my next plane. I had to go through customs which I was a little nervous about because I was bringing quite a bit of supplies with me. The lady was very nice though and ended up only charging me about $20 US. Next task was to get my 120 pounds of luggage to the other side of the airport. This is less of a physical feat as it is a negotiational feat. There are many enthusiastic will carry your bags even if you refuse them people waiting just outside the door. The trick is to pick one guy and say you are responsible and you will only be paying them. Then it is up to them to choose who will help them. So I found a guy and we managed to get to the ticket counter of the puddle jumper that would be taking me the rest of the way. Another half hour of negotiation with the ticket counter people and I was able to get a ticket and passage for my cargo. So to make a long story short, I got on the small plane, had a good flight but a rough landing. Rob picked me up and we headed to where I will be working. I was going to insert a picture here but the formating goes haywire when I do So I will try something else.

Ok think I have it sorted out here is a picture out the small planes window. It appears to be lush but much of it is just ground cover. There are not many forested areas left in Haiti. There has not been much rain over the last month but It rained petty good right before I got to where I am going. I rode into TPWIS (the place where I'm staying) with some patients that rob was picking up from the hospital. One guy had been shot in the face with some sort of shotgun, saw the xray and it was pretty narley. Caught up on sleep last night and I am feeling a lot better. My next blogs will be fewer but more detailed and I will try to make them a little more interesting. More people and photos. Ok well I must go here is one final picture for the road.
