first week
Well it has been a busy first week, upon ariving I took two days to rest and catch up on some much needed sleep. Then it was off to set up a new satellite internet connection, should have taken me one day.... took me four but it is working extremely well. Had help from Leah, a friend of mine here, she wrote a section for my blog ill put it on later. Have been playing soccer with the boys from the village about every day. Please pray for our after game "bible study" it has been dificult to get the kids to settle down lately. We have some new ideas but please keep it in your prayers. Sometimes I feel like the relationships with those boys are the most important thing we are building here. Two days ago and engineering team showed up and I have been busy trying to help them out in any way I can. I enjoy spending time in the field with them. The work that there are doing is very important for this area and Lord willing will help a lot of people have food on a regular basis. It is neat to see farmers that have good gardens that are working them and providing for themselves and their families. I thought some of you may be interested in a typical day here for me. I will try to photograph and write down what I do in an average day here to kind of give you guys an idea of what it is like over here. I may also try to do the same thing for a Haitian kid over here. Today some college age guys and I had English bible study (they think its English class, I think its a Bible study) this morning. We are going through the beatitudes along the same lines as we did with Monday night bible study. I then went to a meeting, then off to the field to map out a certain canal and features along a ravine using a field book, my camera, and a gps unit. The weather was amazing and I was fortunate enough to walk through some very lush gardens not to mention some sort of jasmine or something was in full bloom. I had a few interesting conversations with some guys in the field today. One guy thought I was looking for a place to build a house and was telling me the spot I was standing was a very bad place to build :] That makes sense since I was marking features of a flood plane. I reasured him that I was not looking for a place to build a house. He showed me where he had just lost one not long ago due to flood waters. I continued on down the ravine till I came to the ocean where I stoped and talked with a fisherman at the bay. He was very friendly and we talked about what kind of crabs he harvests. He said he was very glad to see us doing work in the area. We then headed back home. Rain was in the air today but nothing really fell. Please be praying for rain for the peoples crops. Also for a small group bible study we hope to start with some of the soccer boys. Wow, just got a couple drops of rain :] Sorry this is rough but time is limited the end...
